Mr. Antoni Mir Pons | Civil Engineering | Young Researcher Award
PhD, University of the Balearic Islands, Spain
Mr. Antoni Mir Pons is a talented civil engineer and researcher specializing in structural reinforcement using iron-based shape-memory alloys (Fe-SMA) for reinforced concrete structures. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain, focusing on the performance of RC elements under semi-cyclic loading to develop sustainable techniques that extend structural service life. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Technology Engineering and Business Administration from the University of Girona, a Master’s in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Balearic Islands—recognized with the Best Master’s Thesis award for developing flexural reinforcement technology optimized for cyclically loaded concrete structures—and an ongoing Master’s in Teacher Training from the International University of Valencia. Professionally, he has served as a researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands within the UIB Construct Research Group, contributing to experimental testing, characterization of Fe-SMA bars, and development of active reinforcement technologies under the CICLO Project (PRD2020/39). He has also gained practical experience in industrial technical offices and acoustic engineering, combining field expertise with academic research. Mr. Antoni Mir Pons’ research interests include shape-memory alloys, semi-cyclic loading, concrete strengthening techniques, reinforced concrete behavior, martensitic transformation and FRP reinforcement, supported by strong research skills in experimental design, data analysis, AutoCAD, analytical problem-solving and machine learning applications in engineering. His professional contributions extend to teaching laboratory courses, mentoring students and actively participating in research projects. He has received recognition for his innovative research through the Best Master’s Thesis award and continues to build a publication record in high-impact journals and conferences. With a combination of advanced technical expertise, applied research, and educational involvement, Mr. Antoni Mir Pons Pons demonstrates exceptional potential to lead transformative work in sustainable structural engineering, contributing both to the academic community and society at large through resilient infrastructure solutions, mentorship and innovative engineering technologies.
